A microneedling treatment built on facial anatomy

Microneedling with PRF works in two ways. Microneedling creates tiny channels that stimulate collagen production, while platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) uses growth factors from your own blood to support natural healing. At our practice, we use Cincinnati microneedling with PRF to improve dullness, uneven texture, fine lines, and early signs of aging.

Periodontal training is built on detailed knowledge of facial anatomy: the muscles that drive expression, the planes of the face, and the soft tissue and bone underneath. Our specialists work in that anatomy every day, and it carries into aesthetic treatment, where placement, depth, and proportion shape the result as much as the product does.

PRF sits in familiar territory for us as well. It’s a material periodontists already work with in surgical practice, and we draw and prepare it here in our office from your own blood.

The benefits of microneedling with PRF

Stimulating your body’s collagen production

Microneedling works by creating controlled microchannels in the skin. In general, those microchannels prompt the skin’s own healing and collagen response, and that response is what improves the look and texture of the skin.

Growth factors drawn from your own blood

PRF is a concentrate we draw from a small sample of your blood. It contains the growth factors your body already uses for healing, and we apply it during your microneedling session to support recovery and the skin’s collagen response.

Help for dullness and uneven texture

Skin that reads as flat, tired, or rough in patches is what this treatment is built for. Microneedling with PRF works on tone and texture together.

Improving fine lines and skin tone

This treatment targets fine lines and the early signs of aging, along with the general tone and resilience of the skin. If deep laxity is your main concern, we’ll say so at your consultation and walk you through what else we offer.

How is microneedling different from EXION?

Microneedling with PRF and EXION both create microchannels in the skin, but they target different concerns:

  • Microneedling with PRF: Uses platelet-rich fibrin from your own blood to support natural healing and improve dullness, uneven texture, tone, and early fine lines.
  • EXION: Combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to tighten skin, improve firmness, and refine texture on the face or body.
  • EmFace: Targets the muscles underneath using synchronized radiofrequency and HIFES stimulation.

Because each treatment works differently, they can also complement one another. During your consultation, we’ll recommend the right combination and sequence based on your goals.

What to expect at your consultation

Every microneedling and PRF plan at our Cincinnati office begins with a consultation rather than a treatment.

  • A conversation: We start with what you would like to address and what is realistic given your skin, your facial structure, and your timeline.
  • A straight explanation: We’ll walk you through each treatment: what it does, what it does not do, and what a typical course of care looks like.
  • A plan you agree to: If you choose to move forward, we cover scheduling, sequencing, and any prep you should know about before your first appointment.

Frequently asked questions about Cincinnati microneedling

How much does microneedling with PRF cost?

Cost depends on what you want to address and the plan we build with you. Most facial aesthetics treatments are considered cosmetic, so they typically aren’t covered by dental or medical insurance. We’ll walk you through pricing and any available payment options at your consultation.

Am I a good candidate for microneedling with PRF?

This treatment treats dullness, uneven texture, fine lines, early signs of aging, and overall skin tone and resilience. Whether it suits you depends on your skin and your goals, which is what the consultation is for. If Cincinnati microneedling with PRF is not the right answer for what you want to change, we’ll say so and go through the treatments that fit better.

What is PRF, and why do you use it with microneedling?

PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. It’s a concentrate drawn from a small sample of your own blood, containing the growth factors your body already uses for healing. Applied during a microneedling session, PRF supports the skin’s natural recovery and collagen response. We draw and prepare it here in our office as part of your appointment.

What's the difference between microneedling with PRF and EXION?

EXION adds radiofrequency heat to tighten skin and refine texture, and it can be used on the face or the body. Microneedling with PRF adds platelet-rich fibrin from your own blood instead of energy, and it concentrates on texture, tone, and early lines. The two address different concerns, and we’ll recommend the right fit at your consultation.

Why choose a periodontal specialist for microneedling?

Facial aesthetics depend on a working knowledge of the muscles, soft tissue, and anatomy of the face, which is exactly what a periodontist and implant specialist handles every day. Dr. Stacey Blume is board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology, and Dr. Andrew Race completed specialty training in periodontics and implantology. That grounding shapes how we think about placement and depth in every treatment we offer.
